Addressing party workers here, Singh said the violence that began on May 3, 2023, was “most unfortunate” and claimed that while other political parties have criticised the incident, the BJP was the only party trying to bring about reconciliation and seeking free movement among communities.

Singh said the state had witnessed unrest on several occasions in the past, including a prolonged agitation for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
“Manipur has witnessed multiple instances of unrest in the past too. There was a long agitation for implementation of ILP in the state. Later, after the agitation had ended, ILP was implemented by the BJP government for protection of indigenous people,” he said.
He also said the demand for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was part of the BJP’s manifesto and recalled that the then chief minister N Biren Singh had moved a resolution in the state Assembly in August 2022 seeking its implementation.

But it is only the BJP which is trying to bring peace and foster dialogues among communities. It is the BJP only which thinks all 36 communities of the state must be saved,” he added.
Singh said the good work done by the party had been overshadowed by the conflict and should now be highlighted and made known to the people, particularly the youth.
