Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP core committee meeting held on Monday saw senior functionaries demand strict and credible action over allegations of misappropriation of election funds in the party’s state unit. Several members reportedly expressed displeasure over alleged attempts to hush up the matter or dismiss the charges as baseless.Some members alleged that the state election committee was at the centre of the controversy. They said the committee functioned under the direct supervision of party state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar and his close confidant and party state general secretary S Suresh.Sources said some core committee members sought action against those who had overseen the use of election funds and engaged their nominees for their last-mile distribution. Chandrasekhar, who addressed the meeting, remained non-committal on possible action against Suresh. He, however, said action would be taken against anyone found guilty of wrongdoing.Former state president K Surendran and state general secretary Sobha Surendran did not attend the meeting held at Mararji Bhavan, the BJP state headquarters.The core committee also resolved to intensify protests against alleged irregularities in Kerala Public Service Commission. It decided to continue supporting PSC rank holders protesting outside Secretariat and demanding appointments.
