Bhagalpur: The special investigation team (SIT), along with FSL, is hunting for the two named accused and their accomplices in the FIR in connection with the broad daylight killing of Uma Bhushan Tanti alias Pappu Tanti, the BJP’s Sreenarayan Mandal president, of Qutubganj under Babbarganj police station.The accused are Shashi Modi of Qutubganj and Krishna Modi of Sikandarpur under Mojahidpur police station, besides unnamed accomplices who allegedly conspired to kill Tanti. Both accused were also associated with the BJP.Following the killing, Bhagalpur SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav formed an SIT headed by City SP Atulesh Jha, comprising DSPs and SHOs from different police stations and experts from the district police’s technical cell.Tanti was killed near Thatheri Tola under Babbarganj PS on Friday, Sept 11, by motorcycle-borne criminals. He was returning home when the armed men signalled him to stop and shot him in the forehead. Family members and police rushed him to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital (JLNMCH), where doctors declared him dead.SSP Pramod Kumar Yadav, who is monitoring the case, said the FSL team, along with the SIT, was investigating the incident. The team gathered blood samples and evidence from the scene. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being scanned, while raids are being conducted to arrest the named shooters, their accomplices and conspirators.The SSP warned of strict action against anyone who sheltered the killers, helped them escape or supported the conspiracy.BJP sources said Tanti was a dedicated party worker who had served as district president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) nearly two decades ago and joined the Jammu and Kashmir march to hoist the tricolor at Srinagar’s historic Lal Chowk. Several political parties, including the BJP, condemned the killing.
