Bengaluru: BJP and JD(S) will join hands to corner ruling Congress govt on major issues affecting people of Karnataka during the upcoming assembly session, state BJP president BY Vijayendra said Sunday.The alliance partners would raise issues including proposed Kanakapura airport project, drought situation, guarantee schemes, failures in competitive examinations and other matters related to public welfare, he said.“Discussions with JD(S) leaders were delayed due to demise of Chennamma, wife of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. A detailed discussion will be held with JD(S) leaders before taking a final decision on the joint strategy,” Vijayendra said.

Targeting the state govt, Vijayendra claimed schemes such as Gruha Lakshmi and Anna Bhagya had not provided the expected benefits to people and accused the govt of neglecting basic development works. He said the opposition would also raise these issues during the assembly session and hold the govt accountable.On the proposed airport project in Kanakapura, Vijayendra questioned whether the move was driven by public interest or real estate interests. “We will seek a detailed discussion on all aspects of the project in the legislature,” he said.Expressing concern over issues related to KPSC and other competitive examinations, Vijayendra accused the govt of failing to introduce effective reforms. He alleged that the govt was avoiding responsibility by citing autonomy of recruitment bodies. “The future of Karnataka’s youth cannot be compromised. The BJP will strongly raise the issue in the legislature and continue its fight for reforms,” he said.On Union minister Pralhad Joshi being assigned the education portfolio, Vijayendra said it was a matter of pride for Karnataka. He said Joshi’s experience in handling key ministries would help bring reforms to the education system in the country.
