Kanpur: What began as a visit to a police station to secure the release of a detained employee allegedly turned into an embarrassing ordeal, with a BJP functionary claiming he was forced to perform a ‘naagin dance’ for nearly 10 minutes after a demand for 20 sacks of cement.BJP functionary Dinesh Mishra has alleged that Rampura police station in charge Shiv Prakash Singh made the claim. Mishra approached Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Singh and district panchayat chairperson Ghanshyam Anuragi, seeking action against the inspector.The SP said a probe has been ordered and action would be taken based on findings.According to Mishra, police had detained one of his employees two days earlier for allegedly creating a disturbance while drunk. On Monday evening, Mishra went to Rampura police station to seek his release, where the inspector allegedly misbehaved with him and demanded 20 sacks of cement during their conversation.Mishra said he told the inspector that he ran a tent house business and had cooperated with police in the past, but could not fulfil the demand. The inspector allegedly lost his temper, took him into a room, shut the door and ordered him to perform a ‘naagin dance’. Mishra claimed he danced for about 10 minutes under pressure and out of fear.After word of the alleged incident spread, several residents reached the police station and confronted the inspector. Mishra claimed the inspector admitted his mistake in their presence.Mishra and his associates then informed area MLA Mulchandra Niranjan. BJP leaders said the MLA telephoned the SP and demanded action.Mishra also alleged that BJP mandal president Santosh Prajapati was called to the police station around 8 pm the same day and threatened with similar treatment.On Monday morning, Mishra, Prajapati and several BJP leaders accompanied Anuragi to meet the SP. They submitted a complaint and sought action against the station in charge.
