The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday unveiled its list of nine candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, with national president Nitin Nabin set to contest from Bihar.

The party has also named Bihar BJP general secretary Shivesh Kumar as its second nominee from the state, signalling a strong organisational presence in the contest.

In West Bengal, the BJP has fielded former state unit chief Rahul Sinha, while Chhattisgarh unit vice-president Laxmi Verma will enter the fray from her state.

From Assam, the party has nominated Public Works Department Minister Jogen Mohan and MLA Terash Gowalla as its candidates for the Upper House.

In Odisha, state unit president Manmohan Samal and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar have been renominated, reflecting the party’s bid to consolidate its position in the state.

The BJP has also picked former Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Bhatia as its candidate from Haryana.
The names were cleared by the party’s central election committee, BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said in a statement.

The announcement sets the stage for the party’s push to maintain and strengthen its numbers in the Rajya Sabha, where arithmetic often shapes the fate of key legislation.
