Yamunanagar: A 66-year-old businessman was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants outside a gym in the posh Model Town area of Yamunanagar on Thursday morning.Harbhajan Singh, who was involved in finance and transport businesses, was ambushed as soon as he stepped out of the gym, said police. The motive for the killing isn’t clear yet.Police say the killers had studied Harbhajan’s routine and knew that he visited the gym every day. On Thursday, he was walking back to his car around 7.50am when two gunmen riddled him with bullets and sped away on their motorcycle. Police would later collect 16 bullet casings from the crime scene.Yamunanagar ASP Ashish Chaudhary said police received information around 8am that a man had been shot several times in Model Town. Harbhajan was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. He lived in Prem Nagar, barely 2km from the gym.Police examined CCTV footage and spotted the killers fleeing towards the bus stand, said the ASP, adding that teams were out to nab them. Asked if Harbhajan faced any threats, Chaudhary said it was too early to comment and that the victim’s son and close associates had not mentioned any threat. Yamunanagar City police are handling the investigation.This comes less than a month after a 50-year-old property dealer was bludgeoned to death near Santpura Gurdwara, Yamunanagar, on Aug 5. A suspect was arrested a week later.
