New Delhi: A businessman from northwest Delhi was allegedly duped of Rs 16.6 lakh in an online trading scam after being lured by a woman he met on social media, who claimed to be an expert in foreign stock markets.According to the complainant, he was contacted by a woman who introduced herself as a resident of Chandigarh and claimed to be working as a project manager at a multinational company. The two began communicating through social media platforms, where the woman allegedly convinced him to invest in foreign stock trading through a website, promising high returns. She helped him create an account on the platform using his email ID. Initially, the businessman transferred Rs 50,000 via RTGS to a bank account provided by her. Shortly afterwards, he received a return of Rs 54,560 in his bank account. Encouraged by the profit, the businessman transferred larger amounts over the following days to several bank accounts provided by the accused. Police said he deposited a total of Rs 16.6 lakh through multiple RTGS transactions. TNN
