BIT M​esra 72nd Foundation Day Celebration

Ranchi: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra has announced the establishment of an NVIDIA-powered Centre of Excellence (CoE) aimed at strengthening artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing and advanced technology research.

The announcement was made during the institute’s 72nd Foundation Day celebrations on Wednesday, attended by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar as the chief guest, along with IIT Bhubaneswar Director Prof. S. Karmalkar and Tega Industries Chairman Madan Mohanka.

According to the institute, the Centre of Excellence will house eight high-performance computing systems powered by NVIDIA B200 GPUs and will support research, training and industry collaboration in areas including artificial intelligence, data science, robotics, VLSI, semiconductor technologies, drug discovery and precision agriculture.

The institute said the computing infrastructure will be accessible through public IP-based access to authorised faculty, researchers, students, startups and industry partners, with the objective of creating a shared research platform.

BIT Mesra said the initiative aligns with national programmes such as the IndiaAI Mission and the National Semiconductor Mission and is expected to strengthen advanced computing capabilities and technology talent development in Jharkhand and eastern India.

Speaking on the occasion, BIT Mesra Chancellor C.K. Birla said the new Centre of Excellence represents the institute’s next phase of institution building and will enhance its research capabilities while preparing students and faculty to contribute to emerging technology sectors.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Indranil Manna said the facility would enable interdisciplinary research across engineering, science and applied research while fostering stronger collaboration with industry, startups and national missions.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar said the Centre of Excellence would create new opportunities for students, researchers and industry while strengthening BIT Mesra’s contribution to developing future-ready talent.

The Foundation Day celebrations also recognised distinguished teachers and alumni for their contributions to academia, research, industry, entrepreneurship and public service. The institute conferred the Distinguished Teacher Awards and Distinguished Alumni Awards across categories including corporate leadership, engineering and technology, teaching and research, entrepreneurship and service to society.
