Ranchi: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, on Wednesday announced setting up of a Centre of Excellence featuring eight high-performance computing systems powered by Nvidia B200 GPUs.Accessible to authorised users via public IP-based access, the facility aims to foster wider participation among faculty, researchers, students, startups and industry partners. It will drive research, training and industry collaboration across sectors such as artificial intelligence, data science, robotics, VLSI, drug discovery, precision agriculture and semiconductor technologies.The announcement was made during the institute’s 72nd foundation day celebrations. C K Birla, chancellor of BIT Mesra, said, “The Nvidia-powered Centre of Excellence is an important step in strengthening our research capabilities and preparing our students and faculty to contribute meaningfully to areas that will define the future of industry and society.”Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, chief guest at the event, said, “The world is currently undergoing rapid transformation in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, semiconductors, cybersecurity, green energy and digital technology. In such times, the role of technical institutions cannot be limited to merely imparting knowledge; they must function as robust hubs for innovation, research, startups, entrepreneurship and the development of solutions to societal challenges.”The governor expressed confidence that BIT Mesra would establish new benchmarks in research, industry-academia collaboration and global competitiveness, in alignment with the spirit of National Education Policy.
