Chennai: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized 2,870 packs of balloons and 3,000 toys from outlets in Sowcarpet for violating quality control norms. Acting on complaints, BIS carried out the seizure at Ambika Stores, Mahaveer Enterprises and Shetrapal Impex after finding that they were selling products without the ISI mark. S D Dayanand, head of the BIS Chennai branch, urged consumers to verify licences before buying products. Members of the public can verify BIS licences through the BIS Care app, the BIS portal or by scanning QR codes. Complaints can also be lodged through the app or by email at cnbo1@bis.gov.in.tnn
