A bike-theft suspect, Firoz Ansari, escaped from a Siwan police lock-up early Friday by breaking through a washroom wall and exiting via a window. The escape was detected about an hour later, prompting Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha to issue show-cause notices to an on-duty ASI and a home guard. A special team has been formed to locate the fugitive.

Patna: An accused in a bike theft case escaped from the lock-up of Mairwan police station in Siwan district after midnight on Friday.Taking cognisance, Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha on Saturday issued show-cause notices to two personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a home guard.

Two persons were arrested with a stolen bike on Feb 26 and kept in the lock-up for interrogation. One of them fled after breaking the washroom wall and a window of an adjacent room.The accused, Firoz Ansari, had been arrested along with Vishal Kumar on Feb 26 for allegedly stealing bikes from English Mor.Police said Firoz escaped around 12.30am by breaking through the detention cell washroom wall and exiting through a window. The incident came to light about an hour later. The SP rushed to the station and reprimanded the officers on duty.He ordered an inquiry and served notices on the officer-in-charge on duty, ASI Awadhesh Kumar, and a home guard.“They were produced in court on Friday and then kept in the lock-up. A special team was formed to track down the escaped accused. Departmental proceedings will be conducted against the guilty police official and personnel. Further investigation is ongoing,” the SP said.
