With the next assembly elections less than a year away, the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is giving special attention to ‘bijli (electricity), sadak (road) and pani (drinking water)’ to counter possible anti-incumbency after a decade in power.

The government, which came into power in 2017 and retained it in 2022, has announced initiatives to repair roads across rural areas in the state and reduce electricity distribution losses across the state besides seeking progress reports on drinking water schemes.

UP Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh has directed officials to launch a road-repair campaign from October, after the end of the monsoon, during a videoconference. Officials informed him about the difficulties faced by people in the rural areas because roads were dug up during the laying of pipelines for rural water supply projects.
