Patna: In a major push to strengthen Bihar’s sugar cane economy through research, innovation and technology-driven interventions, the sugar cane industry department on Tuesday signed separate MoUs with IIT Patna and the Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, at Vikas Bhavan.Sugar cane industry minister Sanjay Kumar presided over the programme and also launched the Sugarcane Nursery Scheme portal developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). He formally inaugurated the Digital Sugar cane Survey Campaign in non-sugar mill areas of the state.Addressing the gathering, Sanjay said the state govt was committed to revitalising sugar cane cultivation and enhancing farmers’ incomes through scientific and technological interventions.“The objective of the scheme is to make sugar cane cultivation more profitable, sustainable, and technology-driven while empowering farmers with modern agricultural solutions,” he said.Sugar cane industry department secretary Dharmendra Singh said new sugar mills would generate employment and strengthen farmers’ economic prospects.
