Patna: The state Congress on Friday served show-cause notices on 33 functionaries, including three former MLAs, for allegedly indulging in dissident activities and participating in a dharna outside the party’s national headquarters, Indira Bhavan, in Delhi three days earlier.The notices, issued by state disciplinary committee chairperson Kapildeo Yadav, asked the functionaries to submit their replies within 72 hours of receiving them.The notices sought an explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for allegedly violating party discipline. They warned that failure to respond could invite further action by the party, including termination of their membership and expulsion.The three former MLAs served notices are Anil Singh (Nalanda), Poonam Devi (Patna) and Madan Mohan Tiwari (West Champaran). The action was also taken against former state vice-president Jamal Ahmad, former Youth Congress state president and state general secretary Nagendra Paswan, eight former district Congress presidents and 20 others.During their protest outside Indira Bhavan in Delhi, the dissidents had demanded a change in the state Congress leadership, particularly state chief Rajesh Ram and AICC general secretary and Bihar in charge Krishna Allavaru. They had alleged irregularities in the functioning of the party during the 2025 assembly elections.They had also questioned the selection process for the party’s block and district presidents under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA), conducted under a national framework.The disciplinary action comes at a time when Congress functionary Rahul Gandhi is interviewing party candidates from various states selected through the SSA. The candidates are being interviewed in batches of 10 for appointment to key organisational posts aimed at strengthening the party.
