Jhansi: A third-year mechanical engineering student at Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET) died by suicide here on Wednesday morning by hanging himself in his hostel room.The deceased was identified as Abhishek Gautam, 21, who belonged to Auraiya district. He was living in Panchwati Hostel inside the campus. As per the details, the third-year and above students are allotted individual rooms in the college hostel. Abhishek spoke to his mother early in the morning. She sensed something odd and alerted her relatives, who live in the Rajgarh area of Jhansi, to go and meet Abhishek, who then rushed towards the college.Meanwhile, he locked himself inside his room and died by suicide. After some students alerted the college officials, they rushed there and broke open the door. Meanwhile, police also arrived. Abhishek was sent to Jhansi medical college, where he was declared dead.Dean (Academics) MP Yadav said that Abhishek was an introvert. “No suicide note has been recovered from his possession. There was no specific reason seen as he used to behave in a normal manner, except that he had a few back papers, which is quite common.”Station officer Nawabad police station Ravi Srivastava said that the body has been sent for postmortem and his relatives have also arrived. “Initial investigation did not reveal anything that may have instigated him to commit suicide.”
