Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh is gearing up for the biennial Rajya Sabha polls.On Friday, the state’s chief electoral officer Pawan Kumar Sain briefed on the schedule and procedures for the polls to senior govt officials here, an official statement said.The election has been necessitated by the expiry of the term of one member representing Arunachal on June 23.Sain said the notification for the election will be issued on June 1, and the last date for filing nominations is June 8. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 9, he added.Polling is scheduled for June 18 from 9am to 4pm, with counting of votes to begin at 5pm the same day and the election process to be completed by June 20.The official said the Arunachal assembly secretary has been appointed as the returning officer (RO) and the deputy secretary as the assistant returning officer (ARO).
