Biharsharif: The bidding process for managing the upcoming Malmas Mela in Rajgir saw stiff competition among contractors this year. The auction was conducted by the district administration in the presence of officials and interested bidders.Officials said the reserve price for the mela contract was fixed at Rs 7.3 crore. Two major contractor groups participated in the open bidding. One contractor placed the highest bid of Rs 7.3241 crore, securing the contract.The successful bidder will be responsible for key arrangements at the fair, including setting up and allotting stalls, managing parking facilities, maintaining cleanliness, and coordinating with the administration.Malmas Mela is among the most significant religious fairs held in Rajgir. Organised during the Hindu month of Malmas, or Adhik Maas, which occurs once every three years, the fair attracts lakhs of devotees from across the country. Pilgrims visit Rajgir to take holy baths in the sacred kunds and offer prayers at temples in the surrounding hills.The month-long fair also boosts the local economy, providing livelihood opportunities to hundreds of small traders, shopkeepers and vendors.With the bidding process completed, the district administration is now set to begin preparations for the mela, with special emphasis on crowd management, security, and basic amenities for the expected influx of pilgrims.
