Mangaluru: A man died after a SUV allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner hit a bicycle and later collided with a truck on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway near BC Road in Bantwal on Wednesday. The deceased is Godwin Pinto.According to the complaint filed at Bantwal traffic police station, when complainant K Kumar was waiting for an autorickshaw in B Mooda village to go towards BC Road, a bicycle being ridden by Godwin Pinto was coming from the Kusrugudde Cross side towards BC Road along the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway.At that time, an SUV driven by Vinod A came from the Mangaluru side towards BC Road, allegedly in a rash and negligent manner, moving to the extreme left and colliding with the bicycle. Following the impact, the SUV went further and crashed into a truck coming from the opposite direction towards BC Road, before hitting the highway divider and coming to a halt.As a result of the accident, Pinto sustained severe head injuries and bled heavily. He was immediately shifted to Bantwal Govt Hospital for treatment. However, doctors examined him and declared him dead.In this regard, a case has been registered at Bantwal traffic police station under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the BNS.
