Bhubaneswar: There are 199 govt quarters lying vacant in the state capital, while they are planning to build nearly 2,000 more in view of the demand, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated in assembly on Monday. The CM was replying to a query raised on the number of vacant govt quarters and the new ones coming up in the city.Replying to the question raised by MLA Rama Chandra Kadam, Majhi said that the highest number of 37 govt quarters are lying vacant at Unit VIII, followed by 25 at Unit IX, 16 at Unit II and 15 at Unit I.Majhi added that the govt is constructing 132 Type 2 quarters at Unit VIII and 170 Type 4 quarters at Unit IV, in addition to 84 multi-storiey Type IV quarters at Old AG Colony in the city.“In Unit II area, the govt is planning to demolish 410 old govt quarters and build 1,512 multi-storey quarters in their place. The plan is being implemented by general administration department,” Majhi said.He further said there are Type 1 to 8 govt quarters in Bhubaneswar and Type 4 to 8 quarters in Cuttack, managed by the general administration and public grievance department. “The allotment of govt quarters is a continuous process. To make the allotment process transparent, the govt has introduced Quarter Management System 2.0, based on which allotment is made to govt employees and other eligible people, realising their seniority,” he said.
