Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University team won gold medals with outstanding performance in classical and light classical vocal music, debate and fine arts at the National Youth Festival held in Chennai from Mar 10 to 14.In classical singing, Ishan presented two compositions in Raag Malkauns, vilambit composition ‘Mandir baaje, jhaanjh mridang daf” set in ektal and drut composition ‘Har Har Mahadev….’ set in teental. In light classical singing, Satyam Mishra presented a Meera Bhajan in Raag Bhairavi, with Piyush Shah on tabla and Harshit Pal Dhankar on harmonium. In on-the-spot painting in the fine arts category, Pawan Kumar Chaurasiya was awarded bronze medal, while Suyash Maurya was awarded silver medal in poster making.In literary category, Sushri Naina Yadav and Harshit Shrivastava won silver medal in the Hindi debate competition, speaking on ‘Is discipline more important than intelligence in education?’
