Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) began its World Tourism Day celebrations on Friday with a Heritage Walk aimed at acquainting students and participants with the university’s rich history and legacy.Organised by the Centre of Tourism and Hospitality Studies, the walk was attended by students, faculty members and members of the public. It was part of a series of activities leading up to World Tourism Day on Sept 27. This year’s theme is “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”BHU vice-chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi and Institute of Medical Sciences director Prof S N Sankhwar flagged off the walk at Shri Vishwanath Temple. Participants visited several prominent sites on the campus, including the Centre for Vedic Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts, SVDV Faculty and Bharat Kala Bhawan, before concluding at Malaviya Bhawan.Prof Shyju, coordinator, Centre of Tourism and Hospitality Studies, said the Centre had a major responsibility in carrying forward the university’s legacy. He urged students to learn more about BHU’s journey and the efforts of Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya in establishing the institution.
