Kolkata: Police arrested Bhowanipore strongman Rakesh Sahu alias Vicky, from Durgapur while he was allegedly trying to flee to Jharkhand. Cops said Vicky had been active in the Bhowanipore area for several years, and has been accused of forcibly taking over two rooms in a local’s house and demanding Rs 30 lakh when asked to leave.The case began in 2021, when a resident of Beninandan Street filed a complaint alleging Vicky had started threatening people in the area after the assembly election results. Police sources said he used his closeness to an influential Trinamool functionary to scare locals.According to the complaint, when the family asked Vicky and two others to leave the family’s rooms, Vicky and his associates threatened them with guns, and demanded Rs 30 lakh. When the family could not pay, the house owner was allegedly beaten. The matter came up again on June 20, when the resident again asked Vicky to leave, after which Vicky issued fresh death threats. Vicky has been booked for extortion, criminal trespass and criminal intimidation. Police are now trying to find his associates.
