Nagpur: Residents of central and east Nagpur now have a new venue for art exhibitions, seminars and cultural gatherings, with an art gallery-cum-convention centre inaugurated at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Reshimbagh on Saturday.Union minister Nitin Gadkari, who inaugurated the facility on Saturday, said it would provide artists, organisations and residents with a modern venue for a range of events.Spread across 12,500 sq ft on the ground floor, the centre has four fully air-conditioned halls with acoustic panels and folding partitions.One of the directors, Shashikant Manapure, said the centre would fill a long-standing gap for residents of central and east Nagpur, who lacked a well-equipped venue for cultural and social gatherings.

“Facilities such as Chitnavis Centre are located in west Nagpur. People living in this part of the city did not have a comfortable art centre nearby to organise programmes. We are proud that this convention centre will now host a variety of events and gatherings,” he said.The centre also has air conditioning, acoustic facilities and food services. Its 7,000 sq ft open space can accommodate temporary domes and pavilions for exhibitions, cultural and food festivals, trade fairs, social gatherings and other outdoor events.A 4,500 sq ft fine-dining restaurant is also being developed next to the centre. Once operational, it will serve tea, snacks, refreshments and full-course meals.The opening celebrations featured ‘Rangmegh’, a group exhibition showcasing works by 16 city artists. The exhibition features a mix of artistic styles and techniques and marks the launch of the gallery as a new destination for art lovers.
