Chandigarh: Bharat Taxi was launched in Chandigarh on Friday, with the Chandigarh administration saying the cooperative-based service would give drivers a greater stake in the platform.The service was launched at a function organised by the department of cooperation, Chandigarh administration. UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria was the chief guest, while Union ministers of state for Cooperation and Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol and Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar were also present.Kataria digitally inaugurated Bharat Taxi and flagged off its vehicles, marking the formal commencement of the service in Chandigarh.Addressing the gathering, Kataria said the initiative would promote dignity of labour, cooperative ownership, technological self-reliance and inclusive growth. He said it would empower drivers by enabling them to participate not merely as service providers but also as members and stakeholders.He assured Bharat Taxi of the Chandigarh Administration’s cooperation and coordination and urged it to ensure transparent operations, data security, fair fares, effective grievance redressal and promotion of electric and environment-friendly vehicles.Gurjar said Bharat Taxi was based on the cooperative model and would make taxi drivers active participants in the platform.Mohol said Bharat Taxi planned to extend its services to other cities in Punjab, including Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar, in the coming months.
