Mangaluru: Formation of Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas is progressing faster in rural areas than urban centres in Dakshina Kannada, with membership collection nearing completion in most of the district’s 223 gram panchayats while urban data entry continues.Pradeep D’Souza, deputy director of youth empowerment and sports development, said the district had been allotted 347 sanghas, comprising 223 in gram panchayats and 124 across 14 urban local bodies.Around 23,000 rural memberships have been uploaded online, while about 1,000 forms remain to be entered. Nearly 10,000 urban membership forms are being processed. Each sangha must have between 100 and 250 members aged 16 to 35. The department initially collected details manually, including Aadhaar copies, and is uploading them through individual online forms.Urban sanghas are being formed according to population, with two or three wards combined where required. Printed membership forms and bye-laws have been distributed to all gram panchayats and urban local bodies. Govt employees have been appointed as mentors for all 347 sanghas. After a sangha enrols 100 members, it will hold its first meeting. A president aged at least 18 will be selected by the district committee, followed by the election of a 15-member executive committee. The sanghas will then be registered under the relevant societies registration process. Office space has been arranged in govt buildings. The process was delayed in some areas because officials were engaged in SIR-related work and because of the Election Model Code of Conduct in 20 districts. Formation continues in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Shivamogga, where elections are not under way. Officials expect the remaining work to be completed within a few days after pending data entry is finished. The process has been delayed in some areas due to officials being engaged in SIR-related work and the Election Model Code of Conduct in 20 districts.
