Mandya: Merely planting saplings is not sufficient; protecting and nurturing them until they grow into healthy trees is equally important, said principal district and sessions judge Subramanya JN.Subramanya, who is also chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), said trees serve as Earth’s protective shield and play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.Speaking after inaugurating the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations by planting a sapling at a programme jointly organised by the District Judiciary, District Administration, DLSA, Bar Association (Regd.), and the forest department in Mandya, Friday, the judge stressed that the responsibility of citizens does not end with planting saplings; rather, sustained efforts must be made to ensure their survival and growth.Deputy commissioner Kumar said love for nature should be cultivated both at home and in schools to ensure a greener and healthier future.SP Shobharani VJ expressed that environmental protection should not be confined to a single day of observance; rather, it should become a daily commitment.DLSA member-secretary Anand M was present.
