Shivamogga: Swift intervention by a block education officer (BEO) ensured a class 10 student from Dyavanakere village did not lose a crucial academic year even as he grappled with the sudden loss of his father.Shivamogga taluk BEO Ramesh stepped in early Saturday to help Pritam appear for his SSLC exam just hours after his father, 45-year-old Manjunath, died late Friday night following a suicide attempt, reportedly linked to financial distress.Understanding the boy’s fragile emotional state, Ramesh visited the family’s home, consoled Pritam and his mother, and personally took the student in his official vehicle to the examination centre at Ayanur, ensuring he reached in time to write the maths paper.Speaking to TOI, Ramesh said the student was anxious but resolute. “He promised he would complete his exams. I assured him of full support until he joins PU,” the BEO said, adding that teachers have been instructed to ensure the boy faces no hurdles while appearing for his remaining papers.School education department has also assured assistance for Pritam’s future education. Zilla panchayat CEO Hemanth visited the family to convey condolences and said support would be extended as needed.Local residents, including SDMC members, village leaders and school staff, stood by the family as Manjunath’s last rites were held later in the day. SDMC member Sudur Shivanna said the BEO’s response was prompt and compassionate.
