Bengaluru: Greater Bengaluru Authority chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed officials to develop 50km of safe and accessible pedestrian pathways in the Mahadevapura zone in two months, prioritising stretches along metro corridors.He issued the directions after flagging off a 10-km walkathon from Phoenix Mall to Hope Farm under the Bengaluru East City Corporation limits Sunday. The inspection covered a continuous stretch along the Purple Line corridor and was attended by over 120 citizens.During the walk, officials identified the need for slab repairs at 10 locations, unauthorised vehicle parking at two spots, construction material dumped at one location, one instance of encroachment, and four Bescom-related technical issues. Officials were instructed to address the deficiencies immediately.Rao also directed authorities to remove obstacles on footpaths, resolve road-widening bottlenecks, and clear encroachments to ensure uninterrupted pedestrian movement. He assured that adequate funds would be provided and suggested exploring partnerships with corporate organisations to expedite the work.The walk marked the 11th inspection under ‘Project Wakaluru’, through which 88 km of footpaths across the city have been reviewed so far.
