BENGALURU: Shwetha M, a 24-year-old tech professional accused of murdering her parents and younger sister in east Bengaluru, has announced in an open court that she would confess to the June 22 crime and make a voluntary statement on the case. Her live-in partner Kenneth, also accused in the case, was Friday remanded in police custody for 10 days.Asked by the magistrate’s court on Thursday whether she understood the legal consequences of making a confession, Shwetha replied in the affirmative. She said she had confessed to police and wished to reiterate the same before court. When the court wanted to know if the investigating cops had any objections to the accused’s move to make a confession, police officers said they had none. The likely date for making a confession in court has not been set yet, they added.“It will be a voluntary statement wherein she will explain everything in detail. However, the court has directed us to file an application through Shwetha’s counsel,” a senior police officer said.According to Shwetha’s confession to police, Kenneth stabbed her mother Muthulakshmi while she was asleep on the sofa inside his rented flat at Sai Green Apartment in Seegehalli, KR Pura. Shwetha allegedly helped Kenneth shift her body to the bedroom.Unaware of the murder, Shwetha’s father Somasundar and sister Supriya came to the flat and received fatal blows from Kenneth. Somasundar managed to run outside, where he collapsed. He died later in the hospital, after making a brief statement about the assault. Supriya was killed inside the flat.Immediately after the murder, Shwetha and Kenneth fled Bengaluru on their two-wheeler and reached Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, where the vehicle broke down. From there, they reached Puducherry and were arrested on different dates within a week of the murders.
