BENGALURU: A police officer in uniform who was driving home in a dept vehicle got a bitter taste of road rage when two youths abused and disallowed him from passing through a road in west Bengaluru for more than 30 minutes on the night of July 6. They also tried to snatch his phone.According to a complaint filed by Murthy, 59, from East Women’s police station, the incident took place between 9.10pm and 9.40pm when he was returning home in a police SUV (Mahindra Bolero).Sources claimed the duo are children of a senior police officer. After Murthy lodged a complaint, the senior officer rushed to the station and requested Murthy not to lodge complaint. But Murthy didn’ back down.Murthy had to stop his vehicle as he noticed a white Hyundai i10 (KA-02-MG-3424) parked on the road near Karanji Bar on Andrahalli Main Road, blocking his way.The officer stated he honked repeatedly, but no one came to claim the vehicle. When he got down from the SUV and went near the bar, two youths ran from the bar and began shouting at him.The accused allegedly questioned the officer on repeated honking, abused him in filthy language, and threatened him. As they abused Murthy, he began to take photos and videos of their behaviour. The duo warned the officer they would also make videos, post them on social media, and report the matter to ‘news channels’.While hurling abuses, they spoke offensively about the police dept too. They told Murthy his salary came from people’s taxes and asked how dare he take a photo of their car.Murthy stated the accused attempted to build a false narrative by claiming he had slapped them. When his attempts at a resolution failed, he called 112 for help. Byadarahalli police detained the duo and took them to the police station. A case has been registered against them for wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and breach of peace.
