Housing costs in Bengaluru are leaving many residents struggling, with both rents and property prices climbing sharply in recent years.

A resident has shared frustration in a Reddit post, describing the search for a 2BHK home in the city as a “nightmare”.
“Where is BLR real estate going?” the caption of the post reads.
According to the post, over the past three years, the resident has tracked the price of a flat rising from ₹1.4 crore to ₹2 crore, despite several drawbacks.
The apartment, the resident noted, is located next to a large drain and has multiple issues, but its proximity to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and nearby IT companies has kept demand high.
Even renting has not offered much relief. According to the resident, rents for similar 2BHK flats have surged significantly, with people now paying over ₹70,000 a month.
“We were ok with renting also, but in the past 3 years we’ve seen rents skyrocket. Today, people are paying 70k+ for the same flat, and I am shocked!!!” the resident wrote.
Rising costs and poor infrastructure:
The resident explained that there was a plan to build enough capital within three to four years to afford a flat. However, the pace at which property prices are rising has made it difficult to keep up.
“All the societies are running on tankers, and roads are barely there. It does not feel worth it to pay this much amount,” the resident wrote.
The situation appears even more striking in some housing societies. The resident pointed out that 2BHK flats in some places are being sold for around ₹2.5 crore, with inventory already sold out.
For the resident, the mismatch between rising costs and existing issues has made the prospect of buying a home feel increasingly unreasonable.
