Bengaluru: A city hospital has become the fastest in the country to complete 3,000 robot-assisted surgeries using the Da Vinci Xi surgical system. The milestone was achieved by Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, eight years after it launched the programme in 2018, the hospital said Saturday.
The hospital said it has performed robotic surgeries across 12 specialties, including urology, kidney transplantation, gynaecology, surgical oncology, gastrointestinal, bariatric, and cardiac surgery. It also said it is among the few hospitals in India with two Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical systems under one roof and has launched the country’s first Total Robot Enabled and Assisted Transplant (TREAT) programme for kidney transplants.
Speaking at the event, the state health minister, UT Khader said, “Karnataka has built a strong reputation as a centre of excellence in healthcare, driven by clinical expertise, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to patient care. As medical technology continues to evolve, our priority must be to ensure that innovation translates into safer care, better access and improved outcomes for patients.”
