BENGALURU: Spurious drugs worth more than Rs 5 crore were seized in Bengaluru on Tuesday during a major drive conducted by the drug wing of the food safety and drug administration (FDA).The operation was carried out near Bidadi toll gate, news agency PTI reported.According to department officials, the drive uncovered a racket involving the repacking and relabelling of spurious drugs to make them appear as products of multinational companies. The premises were operating without any valid licence, officials added. The seizure comes at a time when the FDA has stepped up enforcement drives across Bengaluru.Earlier this month, the department inspected food establishments, warehouses and other facilities, sealing a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote after finding non-compliant labelling, misbranding and unhygienic food handling and storage conditions. The FDA also sealed an Indira Canteen central kitchen at Gottigere and found violations at two other food-preparation units.(With agency inputs)
