Bengaluru: Ahead of Bakrid, Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) carried out a special drive to remove unauthorised sheep and goat market sheds across its limits Saturday.Teams cleared temporary sheds, tarpaulin enclosures, iron barricades, and other illegal structures set up on public roads, footpaths, govt land, and along storm water drains. The operation involved officials from the corporation’s animal husbandry, health and engineering departments, and police, and was led by BNCC commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar.In a release, BNCC informed that several traders continued operations without permission, despite prior notices. These structures were dismantled using machinery, while some areas saw cooperation from the public. Officials said the drive aimed to ensure smooth traffic flow, maintain sanitation, and uphold animal welfare standards during the festival.BNCC reiterated that livestock trading must be limited to authorised locations and warned of legal action against violators. Citizens were also urged to celebrate the festival responsibly.
