Bengaluru: A trip to Mysuru turned into a nightmare for an elderly woman after a stranger befriended her on a bus at Satellite bus stand on Mysuru Road, offered her tea and stole her 29-gram gold chain after she fell asleep.Chennamma left her house at Thimmanahalli in Doddaballapura around 5.30am on Sept 25 to visit her daughter in Mysuru. She reached the bus stand at 8am, bought a ticket and boarded the vehicle.At 8.10am, a man aged around 45, dressed in black trousers and a white shirt, sat beside her. After placing his bag next to her, the man told her he was going outside to get tea.About five minutes later, he returned carrying two cups and offered one to her. Though she initially refused, the man won her confidence by telling her, “You are like my mother,” and engaged her in conversation. She eventually drank the tea and even offered him a pomegranate.Soon after, Chennamma fell asleep. She woke around 4pm to find herself on a chair in the bus stand and realised her gold chain with a pendant and beads was missing.Suspecting the man who had offered her tea of drugging and distracting her before stealing the chain, she informed her son. He subsequently arranged a car for her to return home.Chennamma lodged a complaint with Byatarayanapura police the next day. A case was registered under BNS Sections 303 (theft) and 318 (cheating). “We are checking CCTV footage in the bus stand. We are yet to find out how the woman, who was sitting on the bus, was found on a chair in the bus stand,” a senior police officer said.Woman forgets gold chain at salon, accuses staff of stealingBengaluru: A salon visit turned costly for a 28-year-old woman after she allegedly left behind her 25-gram gold chain worth around Rs 4 lakh and the staff denied having seen it.Jennifer (name changed) told police she visited the salon in Karthik Nagar near Donnenekundi in east Bengaluru on Sept 19. A staff member asked her two or three times to remove the gold chain she was wearing, wrap it in tissue paper and keep it on the bed.Jennifer claimed she forgot to collect the chain before leaving the salon. When she returned and asked for it, the receptionist, housekeeping in-charge, manager and another staff member allegedly denied having seen the chain.Jennifer accused the salon staff of refusing to show her CCTV footage. She complained to police the following day, and when personnel sought footage, they refused to show them as well.A case was registered under Section 303 (theft) at HAL police station after four days. A senior officer said notices have been issued to salon staff.
