Bengaluru: Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), in partnership with IndiGo, Digi Yatra Foundation, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), has successfully conducted technical trials for a contactless international travel system at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).The trials demonstrated an integrated passenger journey from ticketing and booking management to biometric-enabled airport processing. The initiative is part of IATA’s global proof-of-concept programme to enable seamless international travel. The system is built on a self-sovereign identity-based ecosystem using biometric technology, allowing secure and contactless passenger processing through app-to-app integration.Having already implemented Digi Yatra for domestic travel, KIA is now extending the technology to international passengers. The development marks a significant step towards large-scale deployment of biometric-enabled travel and positions Bengaluru as the only Indian airport participating in this global initiative.
