Berhampur: Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Wednesday issued a lease closure notice to a firm, which has been operating the guest house of the civic body, after completion of the five-year term by July 31. BeMC commissioner Sasya Reddy issued the closure notice to the leaseholder following the decision of the special corporation meeting held on Wednesday. “After detailed discussion, the corporation decided that no further extension would be given to the leaseholder. A resolution has been adopted in this regard in the meeting,” said mayor Sanghamitra Dalei. An agreement between the leaseholder and commissioner of BeMC was made on Jan 16, 2020, to take leases and operate its guest house for five years at a rate of Rs 5 lakh per month. The lease term, however, was extended twice on the leaseholder’s request due to Covid and repair of the structure. The leaseholder requested the BeMC for extension of the lease term for another five years on Dec 4, 2024. The BeMC, however, did not consider the request letter of extension of lease term. The full term of the agreement for five years, including extension periods given for Covid-19 and renovation, will be reached on July 31, said the mayor.After a thorough discussion, the BeMC meeting decided not to extend the further extension, said the mayor.The BeMC guest house is located near Khallikote Unitary University and a prime location of the Silk City. Several corporators expressed their dissatisfaction over the leaseholder as it operates a bar in the guest house and demanded to cancel the lease agreement.
