Kolkata: Krishnendu Mukherjee, 44, a Trinamool Congress booth-level agent from Beliaghata, found that his name was deleted from the final electoral roll and added to the Bihar voter list. He is now seeking legal advice to resolve the issue. His name appeared in the draft roll, but when the final roll was published, he found that his case was under adjudication. In the second supplementary list, his name was deleted. The matter took a more serious turn on Thursday at a camp organised by the party, where an advocate was assisting deleted voters in filing appeals before the tribunal. When Mukherjee entered his EPIC number on the EC website, it displayed: “Search your name in the 2003 Bihar electoral roll database,” which he found suspicious.“Out of the 10 members of my family, only my name was deleted. Not only that, my name was included in the Bihar roll, which I cannot understand. I think this was a conspiracy by the BJP because I am an active Trinamool member,” he said. His name was in the 2002 SIR roll.Mukherjee said his family has lived in Beleghata for years and has no connection with Bihar. He claimed that no member of his family lives there anymore. “I have never visited Bihar in my life and have no connection with the state. Then how was my name added to its voter list?” he asked. He was assigned as BLA-2 in his area throughout the SIR process and helped electors fill out their forms correctly. “I had clear knowledge of how to fill out enumeration form as I took part in a door-to-door campaign and helped several electors in the area. So I am extremely confident there was no mistake in the form, and my name was there in the draft roll. I was not even called for a hearing, so why was my case sent for judicial screening? They created a situation where I can neither cast my vote nor sit at the booth on polling day,” he added.Mukherjee expressed his concern about facing trouble removing his name from the Bihar voter list and applying afresh for inclusion in the Bengal roll. He served as the TMC agent for booth 196 in ward 34 earlier.Alokananda Das, the councillor of the area, said, “We need to know the actual reason behind this because an eligible voter has lost his right to vote.”
