Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Beed witnessed public outrage after the newly constructed MSRTC bus stand developed major leakages and a newly installed traffic signal collapsed due to winds on the night of April 1.The leakages at the bus stand came to notice during the ongoing unseasonal showers that lashed Beed and other parts of Marathwada. Separately, the traffic signal caved in due to strong winds on the night of April 1. While no loss of life or property was reported in the mishap, the sudden collapse of the traffic signal caused panic among residents and traffic jams for a brief period.Residents blamed the substandard quality of both works, and demanded action against private contractors and a section of politicians.“The Beed bus stand building has been newly constructed. It has already developed major leakages. Same is the case with the traffic signal, which could not stand the heavy winds. Such incidents tarnish the image of Beed, which is already in the news for wrong reasons related to law and order incidents,” said one resident, preferring anonymity.Anuja Dusane, the MSRTC divisional controller for Beed, did not respond to calls and messages seeking her comments. After strong public reactions, the Beed Municipal Council registered an offence against the private contractor who installed the traffic signal. Local police registered an offence under section 125 (negligent acts that endanger human life or personal safety) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
