SAMBALPUR: A 24-year-old woman who had gone missing from Odisha’s Sambalpur district was allegedly abducted and strangled by her boyfriend, with police recovering her body from near a forest after the accused allegedly confessed to the crime.The deceased, identified as Sarita Sa, was a resident of Kusumi Mahulaguda village under Mahulapali police station limits.She worked at a beauty parlour in Kuchinda town and was reportedly in a relationship with the accused, Anil Pruseth (27), a resident of Kundaposi village.Sa had been missing since Thursday. Her family filed a complaint on Friday, alleging that Pruseth had abducted and killed her before disposing of the body.Police detained Pruseth following the complaint lodged by the victim’s father.During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime, an officer said.Based on his statement, recorded in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered Sa’s body from near the foothills of Badrama forest in the Jamankira police station area on Saturday.The accused also led investigators to the victim’s chunri, which was allegedly used to strangle her.The cloth has been seized, police said.Police have also detained another man, identified as Ashok Kisan from Sundargarh district, for allegedly driving the couple to the spot where the murder took place.“Further investigation is underway. The exact cause of death can be ascertained after receipt of the post-mortem examination report,” the police officer added.(With PTI inputs)
