Shillong: The high commissioner of Bangladesh to India, M Riaz Hamidullah, on Thursday paid a courtesy call on the speaker of the Meghalaya assembly, Thomas A Sangma. He was accompanied by Zikrul Hasan Fahad, assistant high commissioner and head of mission, Guwahati.During the meeting, the state assembly speaker presented the Bangladesh high commissioner with a coffee table book and traditional gifts of Meghalaya as a gesture of goodwill and appreciation, the assembly secretariat said. Also present on the occasion were deputy speaker Limison D Sangma and senior officials of the legislative assembly.“The interaction was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, underscoring the spirit of mutual respect and continued engagement between Bangladesh and the State of Meghalaya,” the official statement said.Meghalaya shares a 443-km stretch of border with neighbouring Bangladesh, with which it has had traditional trade ties and historic people-to-people contacts.
