Srinagar, Sep 21: The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that water supply in Batamaloo and adjoining densely populated areas is being augmented through new overhead storage tanks, upgraded pumping capacity and additional water treatment plants.
According to the Government, Batamaloo lies at the tail-end of the distribution networks of three Water Supply Schemes including WSS Doodhganga, WSS Sukhnag and WSS Rangil.
As a result, variations in demand and consumption in upstream areas affect the availability of drinking water in Batamaloo, the government said.
“As an immediate measure, the existing 5 HP motor at the Sump-cum-Pump House at Recca Chowk, Batamaloo, has been replaced with two 10 HP motors. The upgraded pumping system is intended to improve water supply to 13 lanes of S.D. Colony that are directly fed by the scheme,” the government said.
The government added a 70,000-gallon capacity RCC Overhead Tank is being constructed at Danderkha, Batamaloo, under AMRUT 2.0. Another 70,000-gallon OHT is being constructed at Khadi Mill, Aloochi Bagh, at an estimated cost of Rs 213 lakh, including electromechanical works and operation and maintenance.
Both projects are targeted for completion by the end of 2026-27. The Khadi Mill OHT is expected to improve water supply to around 477 households in Aloochi Bagh and adjoining areas.
The government also said two new Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) are under execution including one with a capacity of 5.50 MGD at Alusteng and another with a capacity of 5.00 MGD at Rangil. Both are expected to be commissioned by the end of the current year.
A further 2.50 MGD WTP has been proposed at Mehjoor Nagar, with its Detailed Project Report already prepared and submitted for approval.
The Government said the ongoing and proposed works are aimed at improving the adequacy, reliability and service levels of potable water supply in Batamaloo, Aloochi Bagh, S.D. Colony and adjoining areas.
