Lucknow: Cybercrime Police in Basti have arrested two members of a gang accused of duping customer service centre operators by showing fake UPI payment screenshots and collecting cash without making actual digital transactions.The accused were identified as Vishal Kumar Chaudhary and Rishabh Singh Bhadauria.According to police, the case came to light after a shopkeeper, Sunil Kumar registered a complaint on Sept 2. He alleged that the accused visited his shop near Hospital Crossing and showed him a screenshot purportedly generated through SBI’s YONO app, indicating a successful transfer of ₹9,090.Believing the payment had been credited, Sunil handed over the corresponding amount in cash. However, he later discovered that no money had been received in his bank account.During questioning, the accused allegedly revealed that they targeted customer service centre operators by offering them a commission. They would claim that they wanted to transfer money through a QR code, ask operators to deduct their commission and hand over the remaining amount in cash, and then display fabricated payment-success screenshots on their mobile phones.Additional superintendent of police Shyamkant said the duo had allegedly used the same modus operandi at multiple locations. He said they cheated victims of ₹8,080 in Kashiram Pur and Etawah and around ₹1.01 lakh in Firozabad through similar frauds.
