Jhunjhunu: Police in Sujangarh have arrested a cleaner working in a public sector bank for the murder and robbery of a 78-year-old woman whose throat was slit and jewellery stolen from her home, SP Nishchay Prasad M said.The victim, Pukhraj Chauradia alias Sudha (78), wife of Ranjitsingh Chauradia and a resident of Ganpati Niwas, was found in her house on Sept 7 after police received information around 2:30 pm that a woman was lying unconscious. Police said an unidentified attacker had slit her throat and fled with the jewellery she was wearing.FSL, dog squad and mobile forensic teams were called to the scene. A case was registered on the family’s report, and a special team was formed under Sujangarh SHO Mukesh Kumar and Sadar SHO Mukut Bihari.Police said the investigation focused on the busy market area around the house. Teams reviewed footage from about 150 CCTV cameras, analysed the activities of around 2,000 people, and used mobile tower data (BTS), call detail records of more than 50 numbers, and inquiries with shopkeepers and goldsmiths.Based on technical inputs and informer information, police detained and questioned Deepak Kumar (33), son of Rajkumar Valmiki, a resident of Indira Colony, Churu, and said he confessed.SP Prasad said Kumar had worked since 2021 as a cleaning employee at the bank, which operates on rent in the victim’s house, and was familiar with her due to his regular presence there. Police said he was in heavy debt and planned the robbery and murder three to four days earlier. On the day of the incident, police said, he entered the house, used a kitchen knife from the home to slit her throat, and fled with the jewellery.Police said Kumar has been arrested and is being questioned about recovery of the looted jewellery and whether anyone else was involved.
