Kolkata: A 14-year-old Bangladeshi girl was rescued from an Indo-Bangladesh border village in Swarupnagar, North 24 Parganas after she was allegedly trafficked into India by a human trafficking racket. Police said the girl was drugged with sedatives mixed in drinking water before being brought across the border.“She was found unconscious near the Tarali border area under Swarupnagar police station on Saturday morning. After regaining consciousness, she told police that she had been abducted while travelling to her aunt’s house in Satkhira district of Bangladesh,” a senior police officer of the Basirhat District police said.According to police, the girl, a resident of Dhaka, said she had left home two days ago to visit her aunt in Satkhira. “On the way, she met two acquaintances who offered to accompany her and help her reach her destination. Trusting them, she travelled with them. She alleged that they later gave her water laced with intoxicants, after which she lost consciousness,” the officer added.The next thing she remembered was waking up outside an unfamiliar house in India’s Swarupnagar border area. Local residents spotted her lying unconscious, took her to a nearby house and informed Swarupnagar police and the Border Security Force (BSF). She was later rescued and taken into police custody for questioning.
