Agartala: Bangladesh has proposed screening its globally acclaimed films in Tripura as part of a broader strategy to strengthen interpersonal connections and cultural ties between the two countries.The proposal was raised during a meeting on the sidelines of the Destination – Tripura Business Conclave 2026 on Friday between Bangladesh High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah and Tripura chief minister Manik Saha, and was appreciated by the state govt.“The proposal is aimed at encouraging cultural exchanges through cinema, fostering deeper social and artistic relationships, along with further boosting bilateral trade and commerce between the two countries as well as exploring business potential in South East Asia,” Dr Saha attributed.During the discussion, the High Commissioner stressed expanding cultural interactions and boosting cross-border engagement before pursuing larger business ventures, saying such initiatives could create opportunities for artists, filmmakers and audiences on both sides.Hamidullah underlined the potential of screening Bangladeshi films in Tripura, noting cinema’s role in improving mutual understanding and reinforcing cultural bonds.He also shared positive impressions from his travels in Tripura, praising its natural beauty and hospitality, and said stronger cultural collaboration could further cement historical and cultural connections between Bangladesh and the state.Hamidullah said dialogue with the Indian govt and the Tripura govt continues through established communication channels, adding that the Bangladesh High Commission regularly communicates with the central govt to keep Tripura informed of developments.He expressed confidence in future cooperation and cited continuous dialogue among all parties. Ratan Saha, the chief minister’s brother, was also noted for his contributions to cinema in eastern India and his role in promoting regional films over the years.
