Margao: Chief minister Pramod Sawant told a delegation of protesters from Mirabag that the bandhara project would not be executed at the proposed site. The delegation was accompanied by WRD minister Subhash Shirodkar, BJP state president Damodar Naik and former Sanvordem MLA Vinay Tendulkar.Tendulkar said the CM gave a clear assurance that the bandhara would not come up at the proposed location, and that an alternative site would be identified for a jackwell to pump water. “The issue is almost resolved,” he told reporters after the meeting. However, protest leader Sanket Bhandari said the decision on whether to withdraw the agitation will be taken after consultation with all the protesters. The Mirabag agitation has been one of South Goa’s most prolonged public agitations in recent months, with protesters on a sit-in agitation at Mirabag for the last over 40 days. Residents have been opposing the project over fears of flooding, destruction of fertile agricultural land, and irreversible environmental damage.
