Jhansi: A total of 250 students were awarded degrees and 18 meritorious students received medals at the 12th convocation of Banda University of Agriculture and Technology held on Wednesday. Renowned agricultural extension scientist and former agriculture adviser to the Planning Commission, VV Sadamate, was the chief guest. BSc (Hons) Agriculture student Anushka Singh received the Chancellor’s gold medal for outstanding academic performance. The university also conferred six Vice-Chancellor’s gold medals, six silver medals and five bronze medals, while 50 meritorious students were presented merit certificates.Three faculty members received best teacher’s award.Of the 250 degrees awarded, 207 went to male students and 43 to female students. The degrees included 105 in BSc (Hons) Agriculture, 62 in Horticulture and 18 in Forestry, besides postgraduate and doctoral degrees in agriculture, horticulture and forestry. Addressing the graduating students, Sadamate said agricultural universities must emerge as centres of knowledge, research, innovation and rural transformation. He urged students to take modern agricultural technologies from laboratories to farms and develop scientific solutions to farmers’ problems.Earlier, presenting the university report, vice-chancellor Prof SVS Raju said the institution had made significant progress in education, research, extension and infrastructure over the past year.
