Madikeri: In the interest of public safety and protection of public property, heavy vehicles (6, 10, 12 wheelers) carrying black stone, red stone, sand and tree logs have been banned from entering the limits of Peraje gram panchayat till Oct 31.With the onset of monsoon, the roads under the GP limits has developed problems, and could cave in. Cutting off the area from the populated areas may cause problems to the public. As there are possibilities of landslides due to rainfall, the gram panchayat has instructed the villagers to be careful.Peraje is the border village between Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada districts. The GP has requested public to contact 9480869346, 9741518823 if they notice movement of heavy vehicles after the ban has been put into force.BOXA pedestrian was killed after being run over by a tipper truck in Virajpet city police station limits on Tuesday. Vijendra, 52, a resident of K Boikeri village, Virajpet, was walking on the K Boikeri main road from Chickpet in the evening, when he lost balance and fell on the road. Though the truck driver tried to avoid hitting him, Vijayendra came under the rear wheels and died on the spot, police said.Virajpet town police reached the spot and conducted an investigation. A case was registered and the tipper was seized.
